Day One – Arrival in to The Capital

Transport: Meet & Greet, Transfer from Airport

Your great Scottish Romance Tour begins when one of our drivers picks you up from Edinburgh Airport with a warm Scottish welcome before dropping you off at the opulent 5 Star Waldorf Astoria Hotel. You’ll have time to drop off your things, settle into your stunning surroundings and freshen up for your reservation at one of Edinburgh’s most well-renowned restaurants, The Pompadour.

The historic Pompadour restaurant at Waldorf Astoria, The Caledonian Hotel showcases the best of land and sea.

Day Two – Exploring The Ancient City

Edinburgh Day Tour Transport: Walking Guide Provided For Walking Tour

Following a delicious breakfast in Peacock Alley in the Waldorf you’ll meet with your walking tour guide in the hotel lobby. Our infinitely knowledgeable and experienced tour guides will then take you on a wonderful walk around one of the most beautiful and intriguing cities in Europe.

The tour kicks off with a stroll up the famous Royal Mile, which links the Scottish Houses of Parliament with Edinburgh Castle. You’ll have a chance to explore the pristine Dunbar’s Close Garden, a true hidden gem, before visiting the Castle itself. Surely one of the most famous historic buildings in the whole world, your tour guide will give you a complete rundown of the history of the iconic Edinburgh castle. Halfway down the Royal Mile you will then explore the beauty of St Giles Cathedral and discover over 900 years of history.

Visit: The Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, Dunbar’s Close Garden, St Giles Cathedral, Signet Library, Holyrood Palace.

History lessons over, it’s time to refuel with a sumptuous afternoon tea in The Colonnades at the Signet Library. After lunch, you will be taken to Holyrood Palace to marvel at the grandeur of the Queens’s official Scottish residence.

Dine: Forage & Chatter. Stay: Waldorf Astoria - The Caledonian

After a day of walking around Edinburgh’s hilly cobbled streets you will have built up quite an appetite, so you’ll be glad to head to The Forage & Chatter for a delicious meal. Afterwards, your will make your way back to the Waldorf.

Day Three – Discover Perthshire

Transport: Executive Vehicle & Private Driver
Accommodation:
Fonab Castle Hotel & Spa, Pitlochry (1 Night)

In the morning, your driver will pick you up in one a luxury, spacious vehicle and drive you north.

Visit: The Highland Chocolatier, Highland Safari, Pitlochry.

It’s time for a real sweet treat as you visit Iain Burnett The Highland Chocolatier, to sample the finest chocolate in Scotland. Look out for Iain’s signature truffle, a little glimpse of heaven for those with a sweet tooth.

A trip to Scotland would be incomplete without witnessing some of the majestic wildlife that also call this home. You will be treated to a private Highland Safari Tour with your very own safari guide. Look out for Golden Eagles, Red Deer and the famous Grouse.

Dine: Sandemans. Stay: Fonab Castle Hotel & Spa

After another eventful day, it’s time to unwind at the luxurious Fonab Castle where you can enjoy their 5 Star spa, the perfect location for relaxation and rejuvenation.   Dinner reservations will be made for you in the Sandemans Fine Dining suite in the evening.

Day Four – Journey to The Highlands

Ness Walk Hotel, Inverness

After breakfast at Fonab Castle, your chauffeur will whisk you off to Dalwhinnie Distillery to sample the quintessential Scottish offering, Whisky! Not only will you be able to taste some of the best whisky in the world, you’ll get to see the entire distillation process in action.

Visit: Dalwhinnie Distillery, Cawdor Castle, Inverness

From there it’s on to Cawdor Castle to explore this picturesque 15th century building and surrounding grounds. Those with an interest in literature will note the connection to Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”, who is made the ‘Thane of Cawdor”.

The castle’s Courtyard Café is the perfect spot to begin your visit, with a delicious light lunch before exploring the castle and garden.

Dine: Torrish Restaurant. Stay: Ness Walk Hotel

Your driver will then take you to the city of Inverness and luxurious Ness Walk Hotel for a chance to relax before dinner reservations at The Torrish, which has an a la carte menu to die for.

Day Five – The Isle of Skye

Transport: Executive Vehicle & Private Driver

Kinloch Lodge, Isle of Skye (2 Nights)

On day 5 your driver will pick you up from Ness Walk Hotel and take you on a winding drive along the banks of Loch Ness, the largest body of water by volume in the UK! Driving around it is of course beautiful, but for the full experience you’ll then take a delightful private boat tour around Loch Ness. Be sure to have your cameras at the ready as this is a truly magical landscape.

Next up is a tour of Eilean Donan Castle. Scotland’s most romantic castle, built in the 13th century, this intriguing little castle sits on its own tiny island and looks out over three glorious sea lochs.

From there its on to visit the charming village of Plockton, to see one of Scotland’s most iconic animals, Highland Cows. These long haired, long horned beauties are an intriguing sight to behold, and if you’re lucky there may be some very cute calves around too!

Visit: Loch Ness Boat Tour, Eilean Donan Castle, Plockton, Isle of Skye

Waving goodbye to your Highland friends, you will then enjoy the treat of crossing the Isle of Skye bridge, an engineering masterpiece. From here it is on to your luxury accommodation, Kinloch Lodge, a charming family run hotel that offers a mouth-watering array of locally sourced, high quality produce for dinner.

Day Six – Skye Sightseeing

After a restful night’s sleep and hearty breakfast, your driver will pick you up for a day of adventure that takes in some of Skye’s most famous sights.

Visit: Fairy Glen, Quiraing, Kilt Rock & Mealt Falls, Old Man of Storr, Portree, Fairy Pools

First you will make a stop at The Fairy Glen, which looks like something straight out of J. R. R. Tolkein’s imagination.
After a short walk you will experience the awe-inspiring views and you will clearly see why this place is famous for it’s tales of magical fairies.

You’ll continue in this incredible drive and explore the rugged wilderness of the Trotternish area of Skye.
The next stop being the mesmerising Quiraing, part of the Trotternish ridge it was formed by a massive landslip. Think breathtaking views and high cliffs as you pass through the gigantic pinnacles of rock.

Kilt Rock & Mealt Falls awaits you next.
These ancient cliffs look very muck like a kilt, and by their side watch the incredible Mealt Falls waterfall plunge in the the Sound of Raasay below.
You will see both spectacular sights from the same viewing platform.

Only a short drive until you arrive at one of Skye’s most famous landmarks, The Old Man of Storr.  Another mind-boggling collection of huge rock pinnacles, with the pièce de resistance being the Old Man himself.

You will then journey down to the delightfully charming town of Portree. Famous for its seaside houses painted in various bright colours, Portree offers a chance for a relaxed stroll along the shore side with an ice cream. There are also a number of shops to pick up some souvenirs for friends and family back home.

Finally, a visit to the Fairy Pools, if the weather is nice you may want to pack a swimsuit and towel for a dip in the legendary pools.

Dine: Duisdale House Restaurant. Stay: Kinloch Lodge

After another eventful day, a romantic dinner at Duisdale House restaurant (nearby your hotel) will be a welcome treat.
This two AA rosette restaurant delivers outstanding cuisine that will delight your palate.
We will arrange for a transfer to take you back to Kinloch Lodge for a well-earned nights sleep.

Day Seven – West Coast Wonderment

Transport: Executive Vehicle & Private Driver
Accommodation:
Isle of Eriska Hotel & Spa, Near Oban (1 Night).

In the morning, from Kinloch Lodge you’ll then head south, taking the short ferry journey back to the mainland.  You will arrive in to the bustling port town of Mallaig and make your way East, stopping off at the Glenfinnan Monument and Glenfinnan Viaduct. The Monument is a commemoration of the historic Jacobite Uprising of 1745, and the Viaduct is perhaps best known for its appearance in the Harry Potter movies.

 

Visit: Glenfinnan, Nevis Range, Inverlochy Castle, Glencoe, Eriska

You’ll then weave through Fort William towards the Nevis Range Mountain Gondola and a chance to journey up to the clouds, experiencing truly wonderful views of Ben Nevis (the highest mountain in the UK).  Enjoy views over the many surrounding hills and the Great Glen, which stretches for 100km all the way to Inverness. Unique to the UK, this fantastic ride takes you 650 metres up the face of Aonach Mòr (Scotland’s eighth highest mountain).  Once at the summit you may enjoy a (relatively easy) romantic walk called the ‘Sgurr Finnisg-aig’ (approx 45min return walk), before retuning back to sea level.

Your next stop will be for champagne afternoon tea at Inverlochy Castle Hotel, before a drive through the majestic Glencoe. Infamous as the site of the 1692 Glencoe Massacre, Glencoe offers some dramatic scenery, with its incredibly steep sided glen and one of the most iconic Munros in Scotland, Buachaille Etive Mòr.

Dine: Isle of Eriska. Stay: Isle of Eriska.

Having visited an island on your trip already, you may have developed an appetite for spending the night on another island. Well, you will now enjoy the chance to stay on a 300 acre private island and experience the magic of the Isle of Eriska Hotel, which also boasts its own spa facilities as well as a fine dining restaurant.

Day Eight – The Majestic Finale

The Cromlix Hotel, Dunblane (1 Night)

After a wonderful breakfast, your driver will pick you up and head towards the charming seaside town of Oban. Here you will pay a visit to McCaig’s Tower, a grand structure overlooking the town and inspired by Roman architecture, particularly the Colosseum. Although the plans for the tower were never fully finished, it is nonetheless a remarkable sight to behold.

 

Visit: Oban, Inveraray, Loch Fyne, Loch Lomond, Dunblane

From Oban, you’ll make your way along the banks of Loch Fyne and on to the beautiful town of Inveraray.
Here you will visit the majestic Inveraray Castle. Probably saving the best castle till last, this mammoth comprises a massive central building with four round towers, one on each corner. You will also have the chance to explore the extensive garden and surrounding estate.
Be sure to enjoy some mouth-watering treats from their Tearoom.

You will then continue the scenic drive via the Rest and Be Thankful Commemorative Stone & Viewpoint.

Your driver will take you down along the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond to the Cromlix Hotel, owned by Scottish tennis sensation, Sir Andy Murray.

Day Nine – Farewell

After a thrilling tour around some of Scotland’s best loved sites, your driver will pick you up from the Cromlix hotel for your transfer to Edinburgh Airport. While it will no doubt be emotional to be leaving such a beautiful and charismatic country behind, we hope it won’t be your last visit.
